Player Guide

This guide walks you through everything you need as a player on PlanesForge, from creating your account to reviewing your tournament history.

Creating an Account

PlanesForge uses magic links instead of passwords. Enter your email address on the login page, and you'll receive a one-time link that logs you in. The link expires after 15 minutes.

A few things to keep in mind:

  • Check your spam folder if the email doesn't arrive within a minute.
  • Each link can only be used once. If it expires, request a new one.
  • You stay logged in for 24 hours. After that, request another magic link.

Finding Tournaments

The Tournaments page lists all upcoming and ongoing events. Each tournament shows the name, date, location, format, and current status. Click any tournament to see full details including the player count, entry fee, and registration status.

Registering

On a tournament's detail page, click Register. If you're not logged in yet, you'll be asked to verify your email first via magic link.

Fill in your details:

  • Name — your full name as you want it displayed.
  • Email — your contact email.
  • PLZ (postal code) — required.
  • City — your city.

If you already have a profile, these fields are pre-filled. After submitting, you'll see a confirmation with payment information (if there's an entry fee).

Payment

If the tournament has an entry fee, the organizer sets up one or more payment methods. After registering, you'll see the available options:

  • Bank transfer — IBAN and account holder details are displayed.
  • PayPal — a link to the organizer's PayPal.

The organizer manually confirms your payment. Keep an eye on the payment deadline — if you miss it, your registration may be cancelled. If you need to cancel after paying, you can request a refund before the refund deadline.

Check-in

Before the tournament starts, the organizer opens check-in. You must check in to confirm your attendance. There are two ways:

  1. From the tournament page — a check-in button appears when check-in is open.
  2. Via email link — you may receive an email with a direct check-in link.

You must have paid before you can check in. If your payment hasn't been confirmed yet, the check-in button will be disabled.

Players who don't check in may lose their spot.

Submitting a Decklist

If the organizer requires decklists, you can submit yours from the tournament detail page or your player dashboard.

Paste your decklist as plain text in the standard format:

4 Lightning Bolt
4 Chain Lightning
2 Firebolt
...

Sideboard:
3 Pyroblast
2 Red Elemental Blast
...

The system validates your list and shows the parsed result with card images. You can edit your decklist until the tournament starts — once rounds begin, it's locked.

During the Tournament

Pairings

When a round is published, the Pairings tab shows every match with table numbers. Find your name to see your table assignment and opponent.

You can also go to My Round from your player menu. This shows your current pairing, opponent, and table number in a focused view.

Reporting Results

After your match, report the result from the My Round page or the dedicated match report page. Enter:

  • Your wins
  • Your losses
  • Draws (if any)

The system validates the total (between 1 and 5 games). Once submitted, the organizer sees your reported result.

Life Counter

The My Round page includes a built-in life counter you can use during your match. It persists across page reloads so you won't lose your count.

Standings & Tiebreakers

The Standings tab shows the current rankings. Players are sorted by:

  1. Match Points — 3 points per match win, 1 per draw, 0 per loss.
  2. OMW% (Opponent Match Win %) — the average win rate of your opponents. Playing against stronger opponents helps this number.
  3. GW% (Game Win %) — your win rate across individual games, not matches.
  4. OGW% (Opponent Game Win %) — the average game win rate of your opponents.

For more details, see the FAQ.

Your Profile

Manage your profile from the Profile page in the player menu:

  • Profile tab — edit your name, email, display name, postal code, and city. Your display name is what appears in pairings and standings if set.
  • History tab — view all tournaments you've participated in, with your record (wins-losses-draws), match points, and deck names. Your overall win rate is shown at the top.
  • Calendar tab — manage your personal calendar subscription (see below).

Calendar Subscription

You can subscribe to your upcoming tournaments from any calendar app — Google Calendar, Apple Calendar, Outlook, and others.

  1. Go to your Profile and open the Calendar tab.
  2. Copy the subscription URL.
  3. In your calendar app, add it as a new calendar subscription (sometimes called "subscribe to calendar" or "add from URL").

Your upcoming tournaments will appear as events. The calendar updates automatically — you don't need to re-subscribe when you register for new tournaments.

If you ever want to invalidate the URL (e.g. if you shared it accidentally), use the Regenerate link to generate a new one. The old URL will stop working immediately.
